Chinese History & CultureChinese History & Culture (HIST 2201)This course will study the rise of Chinese civilization and culture, the dynastic cycle, the great leaders and thinkers of China, poetry and the arts. We will explore daily life, class structure, warfare, and Chinese scientific achievements and inventions. The second part of this course will be formed around China’s encounter with Western nations and the collapse of imperial rule and traditional culture. The final part of this course will study the transformation of China in the 20th century, first under the Nationalist GMD regime, and then under the People’s Republic of China.
